Tamarind Powder (Tamarindis Indica)
 
Tamarind fruit is an important ingredient in many cuisines, providing a sour/sweet flavour that adds a unique tang to a dish. Tamarind is a tropical tree that produces fruit in thick-skinned pods, and is indigenous to Africa, and naturalized in many areas of Asia, most notably the Indian Sub-continent and Southeast Asia. Tamarind is a crucial component of Thai cuisine, it gives the iconic Pad Thai its unique hint of tartness.
 
Blue Nun’s tamarind powder is made from dehydrated tamarind fruit pulp only. This is an easy-to-use, shelf-stable alternative to using tamarind paste (which requires soaking in hot water and running through a sieve or strainer).
